DiCaprio first came to the attention of many critics and fans when he starred in 1993's "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," adapted by Peter Hedges from Hedges' 1991 novel. DiCaprio played mentally handicapped Arnie, who lives with his obese mother, two sisters and frustrated caretaker brother, Gilbert (Johnny Depp).
